The Croc Ring

When the crocodile was filleted, inside they found a ring,
which belonged to a village maid who disappeared last spring.

The young man said: 'tis such a crime for a beauty such as she
to be eaten in her prime and leave such scant jewelry.

The old man said: You are not wise. She had the evil eye.
She rode the croc to paradise; the ring, passage, did buy.

So they argued all the day, until they went to sleep.
But neither of the two would say who now the ring would keep.
